What are foam core materials?

Foam core materials are lightweight cellular materials used as the central layer in composite sandwich structures. They are designed to provide structural support, shear strength, and stiffness while keeping the overall weight of the structure low.

Foam cores typically consist of closed-cell polymer structures that trap air inside microscopic cells. This cellular structure gives the material excellent strength-to-weight performance, making it ideal for engineering applications where lightweight construction is essential.

Common foam core materials include PVC foam core, PET foam core, PMI foam core, PU foam core, SAN foam core, and XPS foam core. Each type offers different mechanical properties such as compressive strength, temperature resistance, chemical stability, and fatigue resistance.
