What is PET foam core material?

PET foam core material is a thermoplastic structural foam made from polyethylene terephthalate (PET). It has become increasingly popular in composite applications due to its sustainability, recyclability, and excellent mechanical properties.

PET foam cores offer good shear strength, high fatigue resistance, and strong temperature stability compared with many traditional foam cores. Because PET is a thermoplastic polymer, the foam can often be recycled and reprocessed, making it an environmentally friendly alternative to some thermoset-based materials.

Another advantage of PET foam is its good compatibility with automated composite manufacturing processes such as vacuum infusion and compression molding. It also performs well under cyclic loading conditions, which is important in applications like wind turbine blades.

PET foam core materials are widely used in wind energy structures, transportation panels, marine components, construction panels, and industrial composite parts where both structural performance and sustainability are important considerations.
