What are thermoplastic core materials?

Thermoplastic core materials are core structures made from polymers that can be melted and reshaped when heated. Unlike thermoset materials, thermoplastics can be recycled and reprocessed, making them increasingly attractive for sustainable manufacturing.

Common thermoplastic core materials include PET foam core, polypropylene honeycomb core, and modified polypropylene (MPP) foam. These materials offer good mechanical performance along with the advantages of recyclability and impact resistance.

Thermoplastic cores are also compatible with automated manufacturing processes such as thermoforming, compression molding, and continuous lamination. This makes them suitable for high-volume industries like automotive and transportation.

Because of their environmental benefits and production efficiency, thermoplastic core materials are gaining popularity in applications such as lightweight transportation panels, industrial packaging, construction panels, and modular composite structures.
