What role does PU foam core play in sandwich panel applications?

PU (Polyurethane) foam core is primarily used where thermal insulation and lightweight structure are both required.

It has a very low thermal conductivity (λ value), making it one of the best insulating core materials available. This is why PU is widely used in:

  • Cold storage panels
  • Refrigerated transport
  • Building insulation systems

However, PU foam generally has lower structural strength compared to PVC or PET, so it is not typically used in high-load composite applications unless reinforced.

Another key feature is its adhesion capability, as PU can bond well with various substrates during in-situ foaming processes, enabling continuous panel production.
