How does the XPS extrusion foaming process work?

The XPS production process begins with feeding polystyrene resin into the extruder. The material is melted under high temperature and pressure. Foaming agents and additives are injected and thoroughly mixed. The homogeneous melt then passes through a specially designed die where pressure drops rapidly, causing expansion and formation of millions of closed cells. The foam board is calibrated, cooled, cut to size, and packaged. The entire process is continuously monitored to maintain density, thickness, compressive strength, and thermal performance.
