Standard PET foam sandwich panels are primarily designed as non-load-bearing or self-supporting building envelope elements (cladding, curtain walls, partitions, roofing). For load-bearing applications, such as a structural insulated floor panel, it is possible only through specific structural engineering design. This involves using much thicker, high-strength face sheets and integrating the panels with a steel or timber framework so they act compositely to carry live loads. Such use must always be verified and stamped by a licensed structural engineer based on the project’s specific load cases.
