
If you are buying composite panels, you may have seen products called FRP Panel, Fiberglass Panel, FRP Sheet, or Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic Panel. At first glance, these names can look like completely different products. In many cases, however, they are actually describing very similar materials.
So, what is the difference between an FRP panel and a fiberglass panel? And more importantly, which one should you choose?
The short answer is: FRP Panel and Fiberglass Panel often refer to the same type of composite material, but the exact structure and performance depend on the reinforcement, resin, thickness, and manufacturing process.
What Is an FRP Panel?
FRP means Fiber Reinforced Plastic. When glass fiber is used as the reinforcement, the material is commonly called Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic, or simply FRP.
An FRP panel normally consists of two main components: fiberglass reinforcement and a resin matrix.
The fiberglass provides strength and stiffness, while the resin holds the fibers together and protects them from the surrounding environment.
Depending on the product, manufacturers may use woven fiberglass fabric, chopped strand mat, stitched glass fiber, or other reinforcement structures.
The resin can also vary. Polyester resin is common for general applications, while vinyl ester and epoxy resin may be selected when higher chemical resistance, bonding strength, or mechanical performance is required.
What Is a Fiberglass Panel?
A Fiberglass Panel is a more general market term. It usually refers to a panel made with fiberglass reinforcement and a polymer resin.
In other words, a fiberglass panel can be an FRP panel when the product is made from fiber-reinforced plastic.
You may therefore see different suppliers using different names for similar products:

Their thickness, fiber orientation, surface treatment, density, and mechanical properties can also be different.
That is why buyers should not compare products only by the words “FRP Panel” or “Fiberglass Panel.” Always check the technical specifications.
Which One Should You Choose?
Instead of asking which name is better, start with the application.
For general industrial panels, an FRP or fiberglass panel with standard polyester resin may already provide a good balance between performance and cost.
For marine applications, corrosion resistance and water resistance become especially important. The resin system and laminate structure should be selected according to the actual environment.
For sandwich panels, the fiberglass or FRP panel may be used as the outer skin, bonded to a lightweight core such as PVC foam, PET foam, XPS foam, PU foam, or honeycomb core.
For structural applications, fiber orientation, laminate thickness, tensile strength, flexural strength, and bonding performance are much more important than the product name.
What Should You Check Before Buying?
If you are comparing suppliers, ask for several key specifications:
Panel Thickness: Common thicknesses can vary widely depending on the application.
Fiberglass Type: Woven fabric, chopped strand mat, or unidirectional fiber can provide different mechanical performance.
Resin Type: Polyester, vinyl ester, and epoxy have different properties and costs.
Surface Finish: Smooth, textured, coated, or custom finishes may be available.
Mechanical Properties: Tensile strength, flexural strength, impact resistance, and stiffness should be considered for structural applications.
Fire Performance: If the panel will be used in buildings or transportation, check the required fire rating and testing standard.
FRP Panel or Fiberglass Panel: Focus on Performance
So, which one should you choose?
If you are simply comparing the names, there may be very little difference. FRP Panel is a more technical material term, while Fiberglass Panel is widely used as a product and application term.
The better approach is to compare the actual construction and specifications.
A good FRP Fiberglass Panel should be selected based on the application, required strength, weight, environment, thickness, resin system, surface requirements, and expected service life—not simply the name printed on the product catalog.
For B2B buyers, this can make supplier comparisons much easier. Instead of asking, “Is FRP better than fiberglass?”, ask, “What is the fiberglass reinforcement, what resin is used, how is the panel manufactured, and what performance can the finished panel provide?”
That is the information that really determines whether an FRP or fiberglass panel is right for your project.
