XPS Lightweight Core is popular in composite structures because it provides a relatively low-weight core solution while helping manufacturers create thicker and more efficient sandwich structures.
The main advantage is not simply that the foam is lightweight. Its greater value comes from placing a lightweight core between stronger outer skins. This increases the structural depth of the panel and can improve bending stiffness without a proportional increase in weight.
