Yes, but it depends on the chemistry.
- PET Foam: This is the greenest structural foam. It is made from recycled soda bottles (rPET) and can be ground down and re-extruded into new foam sheets at end-of-life. It is part of a true circular economy.
- Thermosets (PVC, PU): Very difficult to melt-reprocess. They are often ground into powder and used as filler for new concrete or particle board, or incinerated for energy recovery (waste-to-energy).
- EPS: Can be densified (melted down into ingots) and sold back to manufacturers for picture frames and coat hangers.
