What is the best foam core for high-temperature applications (e.g., composite curing in an autoclave)?

Standard EPS melts at 80°C and PVC softens around 100°C. If you need to cure prepreg carbon fiber at 130°C – 180°C, you have two choices:

  1. PMI Foam (Polymethacrylimide) – Brand name Rohacell: The gold standard. Withstands 180-200°C and high autoclave pressure without creeping (shrinking).
  2. High-Temperature PET: Can survive up to 150°C for short cycles, but is more affordable than PMI.
